About Chrissy

Hi there! I’m Chrissy, the owner and founder behind Minimalist Maximalist, the style + fashion blog you’ve just stumbled upon – it’s nice to meet you. 🙂

I’m originally from Hong Kong but I’m proud to call sunny California my second home away from home.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always enjoyed writing creatively and styling myself + others whenever I could. It was a great way to express myself in a way that felt liberating and exciting at the same time.

Plus, a gal’s gotta shop every once in a while, ya feel?

I used to run an award-winning blog called The Chrissy Collective (TCC) a few years ago, but after some reflecting I decided to revamp it into the blog you’re reading right now, The Minimalist Maximalist.

Why Minimalist Maximalist?

To keep it short and simple, Minimalist Maximalist is a term I came up with to describe my own sense of style.

After experimenting with both minimalism and maximalism throughout my life, I realized I didn’t quite exactly fit either extreme but somewhere in the middle instead.

(It’s also where I got the inspiration behind my tagline from: “the art of looking the most while doing the least.“)

From minimalism, I’ve always loved the idea of repurposing your clothes as much as possible. I’ve also learned how to shop intentionally, even more so during the pandemic, as well as the art of building a wardrobe from the ground up.

But at the same time, I didn’t enjoy how simple it looked. It was meh (to me) and boring to look at.

From maximalism, I love how playing with added textures and accessories spruces up a plain outfit completely. It’s an exciting way to give clothes a fresh breath of air while expressing myself at that very moment.

But I didn’t like wearing that many layers (it gets hot over here in Cali!) or even feeling stuffy in my own clothes. As someone who is constantly on the go, I’m also not a fan of how impractical it can become for everyday wear.

I also don’t believe that people should be stereotypically labelled based on what they wear alone. Even though I do love a good aesthetic myself, the same can’t and shouldn’t be applied to an individual – we’re like the seasons after all. We all undergo journeys in our lives that affect the people who we become, and ultimately, how we dress to go with it.

But I do know how an intentionally well thought out outfit can help bring about prosperity, happiness, and confidence. Having worked in male dominated industries before, it can take a little extra effort in getting seen, heard, and even paid. Because of these experiences, I’ve made it a priority in my life to constantly show up anywhere I go.

After spending days trying to figure out what to call my sense of style, I decided to combine the two terms, minimalist and maximalist, together to create something I can call my own instead of trying to fit myself into a restrictive box.

After all, I am more than what my clothes say about me – I am a multifaceted, phenomenal woman.

So, what can I expect from Minimalist Maximalist?

If I can put it simply, value.

While I was designing the site back in 2019, it was and still is my utmost desire to create content that is helpful for today’s stylish, modern woman. This is how I plan to do that:

  • Sharing over 7+ year’s worth of styling experience in the form of guides and tutorials found on my blog and throughout alll my social media
  • Interpret the hottest trends that are hitting the biggest runways in the world and how it can be applied to everyday wear
  • Introduce new perspectives on how we view/style/shop for our clothes and how to make an impact with them
  • Build a safe space that inspires confidence and boosts self-esteem that starts from within
  • Explore alternative methods of styling the clothes that are already in our closet instead of shopping every single time

It’s my hope that you’ll enjoy Minimalist Maximalist the way I enjoy sharing my style guides with you! If you’re interested in receiving even more personalized style and fashion tips, sign up for the official newsletter below.
